| Eighteen-year-old Denise Perrier became an international name when, as a convent schoolgirl, wearing makeup for the first time in her life, she competed in, and won, Miss World 1953. It was Denise's natural charm and élan that won over the judges who picked her from a line up of 15 contestants.
